Nicola Pennill

DipABRSM  LRSM CTABRSM

Previously an oboist, Nicola took up the saxophone as a second instrument and quickly realised it was what she wanted to focus on. She completed the ABRSM Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) in Saxophone Performance in 2005, and the ABRSM Certificate of Teaching in 2007.

Nicola balances a busy teaching diary with regular performances.  As an ensemble player she plays with a number of groups.  She is a founder member of the Equinox Saxophone Ensemble, and is a longstanding member and currently chairman of the award winning Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra. She is also a member of Quadrangle saxophone quartet, who performed their concert debut in 2009, and plays with the Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra.  As a principal player with the National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain, she performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2005.  She is part of the organising committee bringing the world's leading saxophonists to Britain in 2012 for the World Saxophone Congress.  In 2009 she released her first solo album, a personal collection of chamber pieces for saxophone.

As well as her private teaching Nicola has worked with the Nottingham Wind Ensemble, Nottingham Choral Trust's 'Bandwise' programme.  She has also been instrumental in developing and running the popular Nottingham SaxDay, now in its fifth year, which attracts intermediate and advanced players from across the country.
