The delightful setting of St Andrew's church in the grounds of Prestwold Hall in Leicestershire provided an ideal venue for a varied programme of repertoire for the clarinet and saxophone. Nicola Pennill (saxophone), Alistair Parnell (piano and EWI) and Kate Brown (clarinet) presented solo and ensemble items showing a wide range of styles and tone colours from these related members of the woodwind family.

The elegant Grovlez Concertino for clarinet and Richard Rodney Bennett's Three Piece Suite for alto saxophone introduced the solo instruments with piano accompanient.  Kate also played the Philip Sparke Clarinet Concerto and an arrangement of Gershwin's The Man I Love.  For saxophone, the programme featured Nicola on baritone sax in Jan Sandstrom's Sang Till Lotta, and alto sax and ghetto blaster for Jacob ter Veldhuis' Billie, a tribute to singer Billie Holiday.  Alistair showed the expressive capabilities of the EWI in Michael Brecker's version of In a Sentimental Mood.

Further variety was added to the programme with a number of ensemble pieces for three wind instruments, and for sax, clarinet and piano; including Handel's Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, Don Ashton's arrangement of Grovlez' Petites Litanies de Jesus and Piazzola's Milonga Picaresque.
